Discover nature. Connect with community. Support conservation.

What is a Bioblitz?

A bioblitz is a community-powered event where people come together to find and identify as many species as possible in a specific area, over a short period of time. Whether you're a seasoned naturalist or just curious about the world around you, bioblitzes are a fun and engaging way to explore local biodiversity.

At Bioblitz London, we organize nature walks and species-spotting events throughout the city to celebrate and document the incredible variety of life in our green spaces.

Why iNaturalist?

We use iNaturalist to record observations during our bioblitzes. This free, easy-to-use app allows anyone to upload photos of plants, animals, fungi, and other organisms. Each observation contributes to a global database used by scientists, conservationists, and educators to better understand and protect biodiversity.

Your data helps:

  • Track species over time

  • Monitor changes in ecosystems

  • Support conservation efforts

  • Connect people with nature

Every observation counts - whether it's a rare bird or a common buckthorn. Together, we’re building a living record of London’s natural heritage.

The City Nature Challenge is a global event designed to get people outside, engaging with nature and helping to make iNaturalist observations. We will be hosting a variety of guided nature walks around London to give participants the chance to explore nature in our area and learn from knowledgeable naturalists. No prior experience is required. Just download the iNaturalist app, create your free account and we can teach you how to use it.
